Exercise: Review your Schedule in your Project Plan

Reviewing My Schedule in Relation to My Project Plan

At this stage of the project, it is clear that my progress has not followed my original schedule exactly. While I have remained consistently engaged with the work, certain aspects of the project have taken longer than anticipated, particularly in relation to reflection, conceptual development, and experimentation across different media. This has not been unproductive time; rather, it reflects a deeper engagement with the themes of identity, language, and interdisciplinary practice. However, it has also highlighted the need for a more structured and time-aware approach moving forward.

One of the main areas where my schedule has shifted is in the development of my moving image work. Initially, I approached this as an extension of my photographic and written practice, but it has evolved into a central component of my project. As a result, I have spent more time than planned exploring how image, text, and sound can be combined effectively. This includes learning new technical skills, particularly in editing and sound integration, which has required additional time but is essential for the progression of my work.

In addition, I have found that the reflective and analytical elements of the project require more sustained attention than I had originally anticipated. My previous approach tended towards documenting ideas rather than critically developing them. As identified in my feedback, I now recognise the importance of focusing on fewer ideas in greater depth. This shift in approach means that writing, research, and reflection must be given more dedicated time within my schedule.

In reviewing my progress, I consider that I am broadly on track in terms of conceptual development and the direction of my practice, but I need to improve the structure and pacing of my work to ensure that outcomes are developed and completed within the required timeframe.

Revised Schedule and Milestones

In order to move forward more effectively, I have revised my schedule to include clearer milestones and a more balanced distribution of time between experimentation, production, and reflection.

By Project 3, my focus will be on consolidating my concept and beginning structured development of my moving image work. This will include selecting and organising photographic material, recording initial soundscapes, and experimenting with the relationship between voice, text, and image. At this stage, I aim to produce early drafts or test sequences that explore these interactions.

By Project 4, I plan to refine the structure of my film, establishing a clear narrative flow and integrating the different media elements more cohesively. This will involve editing and sequencing visual material, developing the use of sound as a narrative component, and reducing the use of text to more intentional and meaningful instances. I will also continue to develop my contextual research, focusing on fewer references but engaging with them in greater depth.

By Project 5, which represents the mid-point review, I aim to have a coherent draft of my moving image work in place. This draft will not be final, but it should demonstrate a clear integration of image, text, and sound, as well as a defined conceptual direction. At this stage, I will also review my progress critically, identifying areas that require further refinement, particularly in terms of pacing, clarity, and technical execution.

Beyond the mid-point review, my focus will shift towards refinement and resolution. This will include improving the technical quality of the work, strengthening the integration of different media, and ensuring that my final outcome reflects a clear and intentional practice. I will also continue to develop my written work, ensuring that it demonstrates deeper critical engagement and a stronger connection between theory and practice.

Reflection on Working Process

Through this review, I have become more aware of the importance of balancing exploration with structure. While experimentation remains a key part of my practice, it must be supported by a clearer framework that allows ideas to be developed and completed effectively. The feedback I have received has reinforced the need to work with greater focus and intention, particularly in relation to integrating different media and developing analytical depth.

Going forward, I will adopt a more structured working process that includes regular checkpoints, allowing me to assess progress and make adjustments where necessary. This will help ensure that my work continues to develop conceptually while also remaining aligned with the overall timeline of the project.

Conclusion

Overall, my progress to date reflects a strong engagement with the project, but also highlights the need for improved time management and clearer planning. By revising my schedule and establishing specific milestones, I aim to create a more balanced and sustainable workflow that supports both experimentation and completion. This will be essential as I move into the next stages of the project and work towards a cohesive and well-resolved final outcome.
