Reflection on Group Activities
At this stage of the project, my engagement with group activities has been limited due to my current circumstances. Living and working in a relatively isolated environment makes it difficult to connect with other students in a natural or consistent way. Unlike a physical learning environment, where interaction can happen more spontaneously, my experience has been more individual and self-directed.
In the past, I have attempted to engage in group discussions, but I found it challenging to establish meaningful communication. One of the main difficulties is that creative work is deeply personal, and without a shared understanding of context, it is not always easy to interpret or respond to someone else’s work in a constructive way. For example, in my own project, a significant part of the meaning comes from my personal experiences, my background, and the way I think about movement, identity, and language. Without this context, it can be difficult for others to fully engage with the work, and equally difficult for me to evaluate theirs.
Because of this, I feel that group interaction needs a stronger structure in order to be effective. Simply placing students together is not always enough to create meaningful exchange. What I believe would be more beneficial is a form of guided connection, where students working at a similar level or with similar interests are brought together with some support from the tutor. This would create a more focused environment for discussion, where communication is clearer and feedback is more relevant.
I would therefore strongly encourage more structured support in connecting with peers. For example, being introduced to a small group of students within the same course level could allow for more consistent and productive dialogue. This would make it easier to share ideas, discuss work in progress, and gain perspectives from others who are facing similar challenges.
At the moment, my process remains largely independent, but I recognise the value that meaningful peer interaction could bring. If this can be facilitated in a more intentional way, I believe it would support not only my development, but also the overall learning experience within the course.
