PAGE-64-The Hero’s journey

A good example of a hero’s journey is again the Star Wars saga. It involves episodes 4, 5 and 6.

Stages of The Hero’s Journey 

Act I

Beginning 

Original world 

He lives as a farm boy in the remote Jundland wastes of planet Tatooine feeling something is missing, having never left his sleepy home planet.

Call to Adventure 

Upon receiving a distress call from princess Leah he finds himself ready for adventure.

Meeting with the Mentor 

He meets Obi wan Kenobi who becomes his mentor after the death of his only known relatives.

Refusal of the Call


He doubts himself but his mentor helps him overcome his fears, and study the order of the Jedi. The order of good spirits.

Crossing the First Threshold 

He and his comrades destroy the Death Star.

ACT II

Tests, Allies, Enemies 

Luke pairs up with Han Solo and Princess Leia who is revealed to be his twin sister. They take various tasks in order to help them accomplish their mission: fight the Empire. Empire’s main villains are Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, a former Jedi lord who becomes Palatine’s apprentice.

Approach to the Inmost Cave- Ordeal

Luke comes close to killing Darth Vader in the planet of Bespin when he discovers that it is his father. He loses his right hand but he escapes with the help of his friends.

Reward

Luke retreats to become a Jedi master. Master Yoda helps him out. 

He becomes one and he is ready for the final battle.

Act III- End

The Road Back

Luke is going back to face Vader who both along with the Emperor Palpatine want him to join their own kind (The Dark Side) while his friends are trying to destroy the new Death Star.

Resurrection 

Luke is defeated but when everyone thinks he is hopeless his father defends him and together they defeat the Emperor before himself dies in peacefully in relief. Meanwhile, his friends destroy the new Death Star.

Return with the Elixir 

The Empire has been destroyed and everyone on the galaxy is celebrating. Luke has a vision of his mentors being proud looking down on him. He feels that his efforts had paid him back.
