Exercise 2: Practitioner Statement

Write a final practitioner statement; think of this as something you can use to inform and guide an audience. Use this as an opportunity to write with confidence and clarity about all you’ve achieved in this unit.

Consider the following points when presenting your thoughts:

  • Get to the heart of your approach to your recent work based on your interlinked creative practice and research activities.
  • Use uncomplicated language and try to capture people’s attention.
  • Consider your audience, who is the statement for? Don’t write for your tutor who knows your practice, assume your audience is new to your work.
  • Capture the rationale behind your theme and process and inform the reader of your intentions and outcomes.
  • Consider your research and how this has reinforced your practical ideas.

Spend time researching other practitioners’ statements and consider how they have presented themselves to an audience. You can do this quite straightforwardly by visiting venues for presenting your type of work and seeing the approach other creatives have taken in presenting their work and their written statement. In addition, many creative practitioners keep a reference to their statements online, either through their website, gallery, journal, magazines, etc.

Finally, remember to look at other students’ statements – they might be in a similar position to you. After you’ve written your statement, consider the changes that have happened since you wrote your manifesto in Project 3. How do the two statements correlate?

Practitioner Statement

As a final practitioner statement, I am thrilled to share with my audience the culmination of my recent work based on my interlinked creative practice and research activities. Throughout this unit, my approach has been centred around exploring innovative and thought-provoking ways to bring together my research and practical ideas to create impactful outcomes that resonate with my audience.
Using uncomplicated language, because I believe in simple forms, I have strived to capture people’s attention and convey the rationale behind my theme and process. With my audience in mind, I have made sure to write for those who may be new to my work and need to become more familiar with the intricacies of my practice. Through my research, I have discovered new ways of reinforcing my practical ideas, leading to a deeper understanding of my creative process. This has allowed me to produce aesthetically pleasing outcomes to my eye, but also meaningful and thought-provoking. My recent work has successfully achieved my intentions and outcomes, and I am excited to share it with you. I am incredibly proud of what I have achieved in this unit, and I am confident that my work will continue to evolve and inspire others.
As I contemplate my manifesto in Project 3, I cannot help but feel a sense of pride and satisfaction in the progress and growth that I have achieved. It results from my unwavering commitment to thorough research, diligent hard work, and a willingness to learn from my mistakes and experiment tirelessly. The knowledge and experience gained through this process will be of immense value in my future endeavours.
